Homeowner Derrick Thomas looks at what used to be a print of a soaring eagle, now a burnt piece of paper still in it's frame in the livingroom of his York Street home on Friday, September 3rd, 2010 after an early morning fire destroyed the front portion of the house. Thomas' daughter woke up when she smelled smoke and alerted her parents who evacuated the house. Derrick was taken to hospital suffering from smoke inhalation. Fire officials cite "improperly discarded smoking materials" as the cause of the fire, which Derrick disputes.
